How to install wordpress plugins?
One of the most basic things you should know about your self-hosted WordPress blog is how to install WordPress plugins. There are many ways to install plugins in WordPress blog, you can quickly install the WordPress plugin by choosing any one of these three methods:
- Searching and installing from Dashboard
- Uploading and installing .zip folder in WordPress.
- Installing via FTP
I do not recommend you to install from FTP unless you have permission to install the plugin from the dashboard and most recommended hosting companies such as Bluehost, Hostgator give you enough permission to install the plugin from the dashboard. You can also see the list of must have plugins for your WordPress blog which Harsh has shared, and then you can read this tutorial to know the whole process.
How to install plugins from wordpress dashboard?
If you want to search the plugin with WordPress plugin repo, you simply know the name of the plugin and do a search from the dashboard and install the plugin.
- Login to your WordPress dashboard.
- Plugins> Add New
- Search for the plugin you want to install.
- Click Install now.
- Activate the plugin and configure its settings.
That's it, you have installed the plugin. There are many plugins that are old and have not been updated for years, but they are still very useful. But as you cannot install such plugins by searching, you can download .zip folder from official repo and then install install. This is a quick guide to install the .zip format plugin:
- Login to your WordPress dashboard.
- Click on Plugin> Add New> Upload.
- Activate and configure the settings.
This is very easy and here I have added a video tutorial for it, which will give you a better understanding of the whole process. And whenever you are downloading the plugin, keep in mind that you download them from credible sources such as WordPress plugin repo, Codecanyon or official page of plugin developers. Avoid downloading from any non-credible sources such as free file sharing sites or torrents.
